Author: Chiu, Cheng-Chieh
Here comes a new semester. As usual, some foreign students and teaching assistants from different countries such as Vietnam and Germany join our extended family – Dayeh University. In this special column, we would like to give you a brief introduction about Benjamin Weseloh. He is a new teaching assistant at the department of European Language.

Benjamin Weseloh comes from Hamburg in Germany and he is a student who major sinology and history at Hamburg University. Before coming to Taiwan, Benjamin had already finished his study for the degree. But he wants to learn more knowledge about sinology, so he chooses Taiwan to learn Traditional Chinese Characters and also to realize culture and history in Taiwan. Because of a professor who teaches in the department of Chinese literature in Hamburg University recommended Dayeh University to him, therefore, he decided to visit Taiwan.

Benjamin considers that Taiwanese people are polite and friendly. However, this is the first time for him to visit Taiwan, but he had an experience to teach Taiwanese students in a summer school last year. Besides, he feels Taiwanese food is really delicious and the scenery here is attracted. Nevertheless, he did not have a chance travel around to see the nature yet, but already visited some cities in Taiwan. He especially likes the National Palace Museum in Taipei.

The most special thing for Benjamin is the weather in Taiwan. During the three weeks, there were two typhoons pass through and caused damage. He never saw storms like that in Germany. On the other hand, he likes to reading novels and also interested in movies. Benjamin mentioned that he saw a lot of interesting Taiwanese movies at Taiwanese Film Festival in Germany. So, he had a deeply impression about Taiwan. He also interested in Chinese ancient culture during his study in Hamburg.

During this journey in Taiwan, Benjamin expects that he can improve his Chinese and learn more about some Taiwan culture. The most important thing for him is to make some Taiwanese friends and try to blend into people’s life in Taiwan.
